Ford changed the game in many ways when it first introduced its Super Duty lineup of commercial work trucks back in the late 1990s. Prior to that, Ford's heavy-duty pickup trucks were much stronger than the Ford F-150 pickup trucks. But they had the same bodies as the Ford F-150s that were being released, and their interiors were almost identical.
Ford turned heads when it set out to separate its heavy-duty pickup trucks from its super-successful F-150 model, and the automaker continues to impress with its Ford Super Duty commercial work trucks today. Learn more about these powerful pickup trucks below.
Ford Super Duty F-250
The Ford Super Duty F-250 might be at the bottom of the totem pole when it comes to Ford Super Duty trucks. But it's every bit as powerful as you'll need it to be when you put it to good use for commercial purposes.
It comes equipped with either a 6.8-liter V-8 engine that can produce up to 405 horsepower, a 7.3-liter V-8 engine that can produce up to 430 horsepower, a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 turbo-diesel engine that can produce up to 475 horsepower, or a 6.7-liter HO Power Stroke V-8 turbo-diesel engine that can produce up to 500 horsepower.
It also comes outfitted with a TorqShift 10-speed SelectShift Automatic with Selectable Drive Modes transmission. It can tow anywhere from 14,100 pounds on the low end to 22,000 pounds on the high end.
The exterior of the Ford Super Duty F-250 looks rugged yet refined at the same time. It also includes a bunch of functional features, such as an integrated box side and rear corner steps.
The interior, meanwhile, is spacious and will provide you and your passengers with tons of room to stretch out. It also features technology such as an 8-inch LCD touch screen that runs Ford's new SYNC 4 interface. All of these things make the Ford Super Duty F-250 an excellent option for those interested in making the jump from a Ford F-150 to a Ford commercial work truck.
Ford Super Duty F-350
If you'd like to get behind the wheel of a Ford commercial work truck that packs a little more power than the Ford Super Duty F-250, the Ford Super Duty F-350 might be a better choice for you. Although it has a similar look and feel as the F-250, it's able to provide you with more towing capacity and overall toughness.
The Ford Super Duty F-350 can come with all the same engine options as the Ford Super Duty F-350. From a 6.8-liter V-8 engine all the way to a 6.7-liter HO Power Stroke V-8 turbo-diesel engine, you'll be able to choose which engine will work best for your commercial operation. But no matter which one you choose, the engines in the F-350 will provide more pulling power than those in the F-250 models. The towing capacity of the F-350 starts at around 17,600 pounds and climbs as high as 27,000 pounds.
At the same time, the Ford Super Duty F-350 is still able to match the functionality and comfort of the F-250. It has the same imposing look as the F-250 on the exterior with features such as an integrated box side and rear corner steps to make it more convenient to use for work.
It also has room to spare on the interior along with tech features such as an 8-inch LCD touch screen with Ford's SYNC 4 interface. It does many of the same things that the F-250 does well while simultaneously taking power and performance to the next level.
Ford Super Duty F-450
Of all the trucks in the Ford commercial work truck lineup, the Ford Super Duty F-450 is the biggest, beefiest, and most powerful truck of all. If you'd like to spend your days driving around in a truck that'll be able to tow almost anything you throw at it, the F-450 will be the right option for you.
The Ford Super Duty F-450 deviates a little from the other Ford Super Duty F-Series pickup trucks in terms of engine options. You won't be able to get access to either of the V-8 engine options available for the F-250 or F-350 trucks.
But you won't mind one bit once you hear about the towing capacity you'll be able to get with a 6.7-liter Power Stroke V-8 turbo-diesel engine or a 6.7-liter HO Power Stroke V-8 turbo-diesel engine. They'll be able to tow anywhere from 25,000 pounds all the way up to 30,000 pounds with the right configurations.
Despite the differences between the Ford Super Duty F-450 and the other Ford commercial work trucks in the power department, the F-450 remains largely the same as the F-250 and F-350 on the interior. It provides everything from roomy seating options and top-of-the-line materials to a 4.2-inch productivity screen and an 8-inch LCD touch screen with Ford's SYNC 4 interface. It'll make it feel like you're sitting in the lap of luxury even during your hardest days of work.
